Getting Cheap Car Insurance Rates in the UK

The best way to save is to shop around, do your homework and use comparison sites to make sure you are getting the best deal possible for the lowest price.

When thinking of buying a car, consider all your options and make sure the model that you want is within your budget. Don’t forget to take things like road tax, MOT fees and fuel costs into consideration. Smaller cars are cheaper to insure (and tax) and fuel costs won’t be as high as some bigger models. Super-minis are generally placed in the lowest category for insurance so if cash is low and you don’t need a lot of space, these cars are worth a look. Have a look at the following tips for ideas on how to save even more.

- Take a PassPlus course

PassPlus is a training course set up by the DSA for inexperienced drivers. The course must be taken within a year of passing your test and aims to show new drivers how to deal with conditions that may not have come up during a standard lesson. It takes a minimum of six hours to complete and there is no test at the end, but this course will immediately allow drivers to save on their premiums.

- Look for money saving opportunities

Sites such as Endsleigh Car Insurance will outline these and will allow you to save money when you buy a policy.

- Check if there are any schemes that offer freebies

Some companies will offer free breakdown cover, for example. This will help keep costs down.

- Professional Organizations

Getting involved with certain organizations can entitle you to discounts that are not available anywhere else and will lower your rates. Check with your employer for group insurance rates that may be available in the workplace.

- Combined and Renewal Discounts
If you’re a homeowner, combined policies may be available. This will lower both your rates form home insurance and car insurance.

If you have been with your company for years, make sure you get a renewal discount. A good incentive for you to stay with your current company and a good reason to do so.
